You can hang out with us at our 16-bit Challenge panel on the Saturday at 5 p.m. And then come see us play at the Corral on the Sunday starting at 9 a.m. and before your favourite panels throughout the day.

By the way, in all the fun of the holiday season we forgot to mention two incredibly important things. 1. Kirk, our beloved ‘Hammer’, and bass keyboardist has left us. He’s hunting the dingo that ate his baby in Australia, or just laying on a beach. 2. Welcome to Dan our new and completely awesome guitar player! We have yet to give him his official band moniker, that will come. This also means that Brad, or ‘the Evening News’ as he’s known to us, has switched from guitar to bass. To celebrate here’s Chuck Norris murding kittens…

PETA, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals or NAMBLA, have released many questionable advertisements, featuring questionable tactics, drawing questionable conclusions. This one takes the mushroom. Tanooki suits = Mario loves fur and murder.

If you want to help a Tanooki get his skin back from that dick Mario, PETA has a fun game on their site here. Question. Should the Tanooki you’re ‘helping’ be able to die? Seems odd? On a related note, If you’d like to help animals donate your money to your local animal shelter, they spend it on the animals and not ridiculous websites.

Well hey kids. It’s been awhile since we’ve THWOMP’D anyone but that comes to an end, now! If you’re not busy this weekend we’re setting up shop at the Palomino (109-7th Ave SW) for two shows!

On Thursday we’re happy to open up for our medieval buddies the Outlaws of Ravenhurst for their official CD release party. Show is at 9 p.m. $10 at the door.

Then on Saturday we’ve just been added to the bill for the first ever Guy Fakes Night. The local bands you know and love, playing their ideal sets of the bands they know and love. Blink 183 – Members of Lions Tigers and Bears and if I Look Strong; You Look Strong, Today’s Tom Sawyer – Calgarys legendary the Everymen covering Rush, Tricky Twoo – Members of the Adam Brown, Forbidden Dimension, Beija Flor and the Silent Auction, Jordan Eat World – Members Of the Silent Auction, Vixen Tor and Jordan Fritz of Having a Silly Afro fame and of course us covering what we love most. It`s a big show and it starts at 6 p.m.

Great or Greatest Video Game System Ever?

The future of gaming is here. The Battman video game system. As far as knockoffs go this is by far the greatest I’ve ever seen. I would order one, but I feel as though I would regret giving these folks my credit card info. Analysis after the jump.

First and foremost, lets talk about the box. Clearly ripping off the old Nintendo 64 box, the makers have chosen 1997′s cinematic masterpiece Batman and Robin for the artwork. (I imagine that movie was better received in Asian markets, in the same way we watch Asian action movies out of irony.) It is also smart on their part to add that second ‘t’ to the name. Wouldn’t want a lawsuit now would we.

Secondly, 1st gen Playstation controllers with a 1st gen X-Box. Well at least they learned from Microsoft’s mistake in not putting in those monstrous original controllers. But c’mon guys, no analog sticks?

Lastly, a gun, because why not? So what do we rate the Battman video game system? 9 bootleg copies of Super Plumber Siblings out of 10.

Music Calgary is putting on two events on September 15th w/ Howard Bilerman, engineer and producer (Arcade Fire, Gospeed! You Black Emperor, Superchunk, Wolf Parade, The Nils, Tricky Woo etc.) . So if you’re anyone who takes their music seriously, or who genuinely loves hearing more about the music-making process, this is for you. They’ve still got a few seats at each, so if you’re interested head over to Music Calgary for details!

Man, do we love combinations of things. We love Game of Thrones, the epic HBO show based on the George R.R. Martin novels and we love video game music. We’re pretty sure it would make for an epic SNES RPG. Not sure Nintendo would have approved of so much nudity and dire wolf face maulings, but this is how it would sound.
